Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, has responded to mounting community pressure to reform the Ethereum Foundation’s governing structure. Buterin recently underlined his sole authority over the foundation’s strategic decisions in a social media post.
The dispute originates from proposals to replace the foundation’s executive director, Aya Miyaguchi, and move Danny Ryan, a well-known Ethereum developer, to a leadership position. Ryan’s supporters emphasize his substantial contributions, including leading Ethereum’s shift from a proof-of-work (PoW) to a proof-of-stake (PoS) system, which increased the network’s efficiency and sustainability. However, Buterin disregarded these demands, reiterating that he is entirely responsible for leadership decisions.
He chastised members of the community for their behavior, notably the harassment and threats directed at Miyaguchi, calling such activities “pure evil.”This protracted argument has revealed deeper fissures within the Ethereum community. Some members advocate a more technical and strategic approach to leadership, while others emphasize the need to address public perception and governance.
Buterin also hinted at future adjustments to build a more formal leadership structure within the foundation. However, he stated unequivocally that until these reforms are enacted, he is solely responsible for all leadership decisions. This reaffirmation of power illustrates Buterin’s dedication to ensuring the Ethereum Foundation’s stability in the face of external pressures and internal disagreements.
