Remote, a global payroll platform, has partnered with Stripe to enable USD Coin (USDC) payments for contractors. US-based businesses can use this service to pay contractors in 69 countries.
The new capability allows contractors to receive payments using Base, Coinbase’s layer-2 network. Employers will continue to pay in US dollars, while contractors will have the option to deposit their funds in the stable and inflation-resistant USDC.
Remote’s co-founder and CEO highlighted that this highly requested feature reflects the company’s focus on simplicity and compliance while addressing customer preferences. This feature enhances Remote’s automated solutions for onboarding, invoicing, and paying contractors.
USDC’s dollar-pegged stability is a practical answer for contractors in nations experiencing economic turbulence, as it provides a dependable means to keep assets in US dollars. Additionally, Stripe’s integration allows for near-instant payment settlements, bypassing traditional banking delays and currency exchange procedures.
Previously, Remote’s payment options through Stripe were limited to local currencies or select European currencies for European contractors. Now, this expansion into USDC payments marks a significant shift, aligning with the post-pandemic trend of increased global hiring and flexible payment models.
Stripe’s re-entry into the cryptocurrency industry earlier this year was significant. After ceasing its Bitcoin payment services in 2018, the company resumed crypto-related services by partnering with Coinbase to enable USDC support on Base. This collaboration reinforces Stripe’s position as a leader in integrating blockchain technology with mainstream financial solutions.
