Meta announces a physical store with a metaverse theme in the San Francisco Bay Area

The Store will provide interactive demonstrations of its hardware products, such as virtual reality headsets and video communications displays.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, said it would be opening a retail store in Burlingame, California on May 9 in order to offer interactive demonstrations of its hardware products, including virtual reality headsets, video communications displays, as well as smart glasses. There will be a curved LED screen that will come wall to wall in the store, which will show users what they see using Meta headsets when they visit it. The store will be located at the Meta campus in Menlo Park, where its headquarters is located. A unique experience will be offered by the Meta store, with an area of approximately 1,550 square feet.

Having the store here in Burlingame gives us more opportunity to experiment and keep the customer experience core to our development. What we learn here will help define our future retail strategy.

Martin Gilliard, Head of Meta Store

Demonstrations include making video calls to retail associates with Portal, learning how Ray-Ban Stories can help visitors stay present in the world around them, and experiencing the magic of VR with a first-ever immersive Quest 2 demo.

Meta Store aims to give users an understanding of what’s possible now with Meta products, as well as a glimpse into the future as the metaverse is brought to life, and hopefully demystifying that concept a bit along the way.

The Meta Store is going to help people make that connection to how our products can be the gateway to the metaverse in the future. We’re not selling the metaverse in our store, but hopefully people will come in and walk out knowing a little bit more about how our products will help connect them to it.

Martin Gilliard, Head of Meta Store

Additionally, the Meta Store houses an interactive display screen for Quest 2, giving you the chance to play with the hardware, accessories, and browse the vast range of content that is currently available. A Quest 2 demo area will also be available. Here, visitors can get a taste of Beat Saber, GOLF+, Real VR Fishing and Supernatural VR experiences on a wall-to-wall curved LED screen that displays what they are seeing through their headsets. A 30-second mixed reality clip will also be available to visitors, so they can share their experience with others.

From May 9th onwards, the store will be open between the hours of 11:00AM and 6:00PM (Pacific Time) Monday through Friday. You can find it at 322 Airport Blvd in Burlingame, California. Customers will have the opportunity to purchase Quest 2, Quest 2 accessories, as well as Portal devices at the event.
