A former senior employee of Binance has launched a complaint against the cryptocurrency exchange’s UK division, accusing it of wrongful dismissal and retribution after she uncovered a bribery event. Amrita Srivastava, who worked at Binance from 2022 to 2023, claims that a colleague requested a bribe from a customer under the guise of providing advisory services.
Srivastava claims to have reported the bribery event to Binance’s management in April 2023. However, she believes her firing less than a month later was a direct response to her whistleblowing. Binance, on the other hand, claims that the alleged bribery was already being investigated when Srivastava mentioned it and that her removal was due to poor job performance.
Srivastava expressed her dissatisfaction with the handling of the incident in her lawsuit, asserting that she could not “look the other way” when a customer fell victim to a scam. She emphasized that bribery and customer fraud were evident ethical transgressions that warranted attention.
The fate of the lawsuit is unknown, but it demonstrates the difficulties Binance confronts as it navigates legal hurdles. If successful, Srivastava might win hefty compensation, as whistleblowers in the UK are eligible for uncapped rewards.
This legal action adds to Binance’s increasing list of legal challenges internationally, including continuing regulatory investigations in both the UK and the United States.
